    Job description:

    We are currently seeking a FULL TIME summer studentship to join the School of Business at Waterford Institute of Technology. WIT is currently coordinating the EU funded H2020 project, HECAT, in association with nine other consortium members from Denmark, France, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland. This research funded under H2020 Societal Challenge 6 (Grant Agreement No. 870702) which explores socioeconomic and cultural transformations will use sociological and anthropological insight on the experience of unemployment with expertise in national statistical and learning algorithms to develop new techniques to visualise the labour market.   

    The summer studentship will be recruited to WIT to support the interface between the Irish Sociological team and the Slovenian Data/Statistics/Advanced Mathematics team, by working with the Irish team on a series of memos to brief the Slovenian team on statistical constructs to be developed in the HECAT software platform. The candidate will be studying advanced mathematics and have strong communication skills.

    Key Responsibilities:

    ~Attend (remote/online) project coordination meetings between the Slovenian and Irish teams in the project

    ~Support the writing of key memos to guide statistical modeling based on sociological insight into the labour market

    ~Work with the Waterford project team to gain an insight into the function of European research projects, and support the development of fresh research initiatives

    ~Aiding the coordinator in providing communication between the partners and the EU project officer

    ~Any other duties as required by the Principal Investigator.

    Selection Criteria:

    Essential: A deep understanding of advanced mathematical modelling techniques, excellent communication skills

    Desirable: Expertise in programming languages used in mathematics such as R, C, C++, Prolog and LaTeX  

    Specific details: This studentship is to be completed by 15 August 2021, or earlier by agreement.

    The role will be based at the Waterford Institute of Technology, but will follow the working from home public health guidelines that are in place.

    The contract will be effective on appointment (expected 21 June 2021).

    The role will be effective on appointment will be a WIT studentship agreement, gross pay is €365 per week.
